Our Team Ministry

St. Paul's-Zion-Botany Pastoral Charge is served by the team ministry of The Rev. Jim Brown and Pastor Lynn Brown.

Jim has been ordained since 1982 and has a Masters of Divinity as well as a Masters of Theological Studies in Pastoral Care and Counselling. In 2004, he completed the program of studies for Interim Ministry in The United Church of Canada, a ministry he may pursue in later years. Jim has responsibility for most of the formal pastoral care in the charge and is often seen on his motorcycle visiting among the congregations and health facilities.

Lynn has a degree in education and comes with an extensive teaching background. In May, 2008, she was formally recognized by London Conference as a Designated Lay Minister. She works halftime in the pastoral charge, providing leadership in Christian Development as well as worship and some pastoral care. Singing and music are meaningful to Lynn and she likes exploring ways that music and other art forms can be used creatively in worship.

A Chaplain with the Chatham-Kent Police Services, Jim provides an outreach ministry that is valuable and rewarding. With a grin, he tells his congregations that they may see him in a police car, but to note that he is riding up front. (He still isn't allowed to drive the police cars!) From April to October, besides riding his motorcycle, Jim really enjoys playing golf at a nearby club.   Lynn likes to walk and is often seen speedwalking on Queen Street in the early morning. She sings with the Kent Glee Club and is an avid reader as well as enjoying a bit of gardening.

The Browns came to this charge from Nova Scotia in 2001. They have a cottage overlooking the ocean in Yarmouth, N.S. that is their summer retreat, and look forward each year to getting back to ocean, salt air, and yes - even the fog!

Jim and Lynn have a blended family of four sons: Kris Burley lives in Toronto and is a business partner in a decorating firm called Shih’k Concepts. Craig Brown and his wife, Anna, live in London, England, with son, Callum, now almost 4, and twins, Maya and Alex, born in 2006.  Mark and Jana Burley live just outside of Halifax with their daughter, Jordan, now age 8, and newest addition, Ryder, who will celebrate his first birthday in August.  Scott Brown lives in Ottawa and has a son, Bode, now three years old.

Though Maritimers at heart, the Browns have settled into their lives in Southwest Ontario, and enjoy living on the edge of Chatham in a quiet neighbourhood. Having grown accustomed to the flat farmland, few trees, and no ocean, they still haven't managed to acclimatize to Chatham-Kent summers - an adjustment that, well, may just never happen!
